Fixing stuff Around Yourself

I was sitting on my bed. It was very cold outside. I think the temperature was 6 degrees. I was sitting in my blanket but the cold was relentless. I tried turning on my gas heater. But to my dismay, the gas wasn’t available. I thought of some alternate way to deploy some heating mechanism in my room. Then my mother told me about an electric heater which was left by some guests as it wasn’t working. I immediately became excited. I brought it out of storage.

Electric Heater (Not working)

Being an Electrical Engineer, I know the workings of most of the Electrical Devices and I can repair them easily. As Amal had also told us to fix something so I thought of hitting two birds with one stone. I don’t like doing these tasks for others as its the job of a technician and not an engineer. You can understand this example like a Doctor doesn’t do the job of a nurse even though a doctor is more skilled.

So, technicalities aside I opened up the heater and started looking for the faults. I cleaned all the dust inside. I found that a wire connection had become loose which had caused short circuiting. I took that wire soldered it to its terminal and put electric tape on it. Then I plugged in the switch and Voila!

Electric Heater (Working)

Truth be told, I felt very warm after this task :) I would have done this task even if Amal hadn’t told me because it was necessary for me to complete it and I had the required skill set to complete it, so I did it then and there.

This act can relate to everyday leadership in a way that it was my personal responsibility as a member of house to fix something that I can. So, even if I am not using my heater any of my household members can.
